Bangalow Billycart Derby

This Sunday, 20th May 2012, will see the main street of Bangalow transformed into a billycart racetrack. More than 240 competitors are expected for the event and registration for the event is available on the day.

This will be the 18th annual event, which always draws an eclectic crowd of billycart enthusiasts, both young and old.

The billycart runs start at 9am, plus there is a street parade at 12.30pm, and presentations are at 3pm. Full details of the day can be found on the official website here.

Red Tent Festival

This Saturday, 31st March, girls & women from all walks of life will be coming together to talk about all things birth. The Red Tent Festival, held at Mullumbimby Civic Hall, is a day for nuturing & celebrating being a woman.

There is a full program of events and a host of wonderful workshops during the day

Pollyanna Darling, a  local blogger, writer & broadcaster will be holding a special workshop on “Your Love Life and Mothering – How to Have Both!” The workshop will cover how to meet the demands of children and maintain a healthy intimate relationship as this  is a challenge most mothers today face. Pollyanna Darling, will conduct a one hour hands-on workshop including a conflict exercise, partner work, sharing and a guided meditation.

25th Wintersun Festival, Coffs Harbour

25th Wintersun Festival June 1st -June 11th 2012, Coffs Harbour.   

Wintersun is Australia’s longest running Retro Nostalgia Festival featuring the cars, music and lifestyle mainly of the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s.

Pre 1974 Hot Rods, Classics and Custom cars will be driving around and on static display and are a major part of the festival. This year is their 25th Birthday year so theyare celebrating big time.

Curryfest 2012

Woolgoolga Curryfest, April 28th 2012 – WILL BE HOTTER THAN EVER!

It’s going to be as delicious as it sounds! Woolgoolga Curryfest is a signature event which not only celebrates the cultural diversity of the area but also showcases multicultural cuisine, traditional and modern dances, music, comedy, arts and crafts.

This year, and for the first time, Curryfest becomes a weekend experience with personalised cooking classes kicking off the event on Friday 28th April and a learn to meditate workshop finishing off the celebrations on Sunday 29th April. Bluesfest 2012

Bluesfest 2012 is eagerly anticipated here in Byron Bay. Held over the Easter long weekend, Thursday 5th-Monday 9th April, this will be the 23rd blues & roots music festival at their home at Tyagarah Tee Tree farm.

The line up is already incredible, with Cold Chisel headlining and other acts such as Earth, Wind and Fire, John Fogerty, The Pogues, John Butler Trio and Ziggy Marley. Plus there are always last minute additions.

Bluesfest is popular with both locals and visitors and this year’s event is promising to be as spectacular as ever. 6th Annual Byron Bay International Film Festival

The 2012 Byron Bay International Film Festival (BBFF) will once again bring film lovers & film makers together for entertaining dose of screen culture, right in the centre of Byron Bay

Screening over 10 days from 2nd-11th March, the festival once again attracts international filmmakers, directors, producers, performers, prominent members of Australia’s film industry and many film fans.

Growing every year, This years BBFF will feature over 170 films  public screenings, with over 40 sessions including introductions and Q & A sessions by attending filmmakers. There is a  Gala Red Carpet Opening Night and Closing Party showcases, a free beachside screening on March 8th, free workshops & panels, a balcony bar for the audience to mingle with filmmakers and an expanded programme in neighbouring Lismore.

Splendour in the Grass, back in Byron Bay for 2012

After 2 years at Woodford in Queensland, the Splendour team are working on on bringing it back to where it belongs in the Bay. There have been a number of community groups that have also taken to the cause of bringing Splendour back and you can’t go through town without seeing a ‘Bring Splendour Home’ bumper sticker.

The planned return has been welcomed by the Byron Shire Mayor, Jan Barham who said ‘Splendour’s home is Byron Bay and there is defined benefit that the festival delivers to the area, especially in winter, so it is a welcome return’

Spirit Festival Byron Bay

Held in beautiful Mullumbimby, this year’s Byron Spirit Festival is held between the 17th – 19th Februrary 2012. It is described a being “a revolutionary event that unifies the worlds of Yoga, Tantra, Music and Dance in celebration and gratitude of ones awakening into a deep loving connection with oneself and our community”. There is a full weekend of workshops and events plus concerts in the evening.

There will be local, national and international teachers, performers, healers, mentors & friends that will be sharing their knowledge and visions in the forms of yoga, kirtan, conscious dance, tantra, healing and music. The theme of the weekend is  “Truth is one, paths are many”and the focus is on sustainability and strengthening community bonds.
